The Al Neuharth Innovation in Investigative Journalism Award

This category, supported by the Gannett Foundation, honors a single story or a series of stories that uncover major news that advances and serves the public interest based on the reporters’ own investigations. Clear presentation through user interface and interactivity, creative use of the medium and platforms, including mobile, use of social tools and evidence of the impact of the publication will be considered. An entry will consist of a single piece, series or package on the same subject, including an explanation detailing the investigation’s impact. An entry may consist of up to three examples, including articles, blog posts, videos, graphics, podcasts, etc.

For more than fifty years, the Sidney Hillman Foundation has awarded the Hillman prizes, which are among the most prestigious honors in journalism. In 2009, the foundation inaugurated the Sidney, a monthly award for an outstanding piece of socially-conscious journalism. We are looking for investigative work that fosters social and economic justice.

Established in 1953, the Scripps Howard Foundation’s national journalism awards competition is open to news organizations based in the United States and recognizes outstanding print,
broadcast and online journalism in 15 categories. [One of these categories is the Ursula and Gilbert Farfel Prize for Investigative Reporting, and another is Public Service Reporting.] Two additional categories honor college journalism and mass communication educators for excellence in administration and teaching. Winners receive trophies and share $180,000 in cash prizes.

The Gerald Loeb Awards were established in 1957 by the late Gerald Loeb, a founding partner of E.F. Hutton. His intention was to encourage reporting on business and finance that would inform and protect the private investor and the general public. As the most prestigious honor in business journalism, distinguished journalists and outlets nationwide submit entries to the competition.

UCLA Anderson [School of Management] has been presenting The Gerald Loeb Awards since 1973….
